The people of Fremantle are lucky people. Not only was the modern Australian craft beer scene born in the little Oceanside town, but it is also home to the Little Creatures and Monk breweries and the original Clancy’s Fish Pub, a venue that does much more than serve up some of the best fishy pub fare on the west coast.
For years, Clancy’s has been one of the few venues in WA serving quality craft beer, steadily increasing the number of taps around its horseshoe bar and, at the same time, increasing its reach around the Aussie craft beer world. The beer list tends to predominantly showcase WA’s thriving craft beer scene, from Nail to Last Drop, Bootleg to Feral, although you’ll always find a fair few turned over to guests from the east plus a handful of taps pouring the bigger boys' brews too.
The pub is housed in an old building decorated with all manner of giant fishbones and fishy artwork. There’s a family-friendly courtyard backing on to a huge walled park, which hosts many a game of cricket or footy while parents relax, plus outdoor terrace seating, a dining room and a band room that hosts live music several nights a week as well as a popular trivia night every Tuesday.
The Clancy’s concept has proved such as success that there are now three other venues around WA – at Perth’s City Beach, Dunsborough and Canning Bridge. But the Freo venue remains the original and very much Clancy’s heart and soul.
