The first bottleshop to dive headfirst into the world of Australian craft beers and still the one with the biggest selection, Purvis Cellars is a veritable treasure trove for beer lovers. Having started out as a home for boutique wines, its shelf space has been taken over by almost 1,000 beers from all over the world in recent years, a quarter of which come from Australia. Before it all started, Craig Purvis was a director of Aussie Disposals. But, having decided to sell up his share and seek a fresh challenge, he did what everyone dreams of: making their hobby their business. Combining his retail skills with a love for good wine and beer, he opened Purvis Cellars in Whitehorse Road in September 2001 and soon carved out a reputation for a wide selection of quality products and staff who knew what they were selling.

Today, newcomers tend to react like kids in a lolly store when they first enter, dazzled by the selection drawn from every corner of the world. Those who wish to learn more can put themselves in the trusty arms of staff – or become members and attend regular tastings and brewer showcases.
