On May 20, Melbourne's Chin Chin hosts its first Good Beer Week event in the company of Quiet Deeds brewing company.
They're serving up a midweek afternoon feast and, in tribute to their first appearance at the festival, have also launched a beer-themed art exhibition.
Beers of Wisdom is described as "a fascinating art exhibition playing revered homage to beer signage of yesteryear. Masterfully created by an eclectic mix of artists, the display will showcase work inspired by beer advertising that was once primarily devoted to the very essence of drinking culture."
The aim is to allow people to reminisce, discover and understand the "authentic culture that beer drinking was from the 1960s to 1980s. Beer advertising found in bars and pubs half a century ago spoke to a culture, it promoted mateship and importantly, respected the craftsmanship that brewers put into every single drop of amber fluid."
Quiet Deeds co-founder Patrick Ale says: “Beers of Wisdom is a brilliant tribute to not only the brewers of the past but the ingenious creativity of the advertising that brought these beers to life. Drinking with friends centres around social cohesion, exactly what 'Beers of Wisdom' is expressing; the close bond between mates accentuated by the wisdom that the creative advertising of the past evoked."
Featured artists include We Buy Your Kids, Machinegun Dev, Jon Contino, Charl Hoers, Reece Hobbins, TJ Guzzardi and Chris Yee.
Chin Chin is at 125 Flinders Lane. There is still a handful of tickets available for their event on May 20.
