The third annual Queensland Homebrewing Conference (QHC) will be held on Saturday 29 August at the Southbank Institute of Technology in Brisbane.
The one day event is dedicated to amateur brewers of all shapes, sizes and levels of knowledge, from beginners to advanced. It will feature presentations from professionals across the brewing spectrum, which this year will include speakers from Stone & Wood, Fortitude Brewing, Akasha Brewing, Catchment Brewing and Gladfield Malt.
Some of the topics featured will include:
- Testing your malts and building recipes
- Why styles matter in experimental beers
- Using oak in beer
- Advanced Quality Control and Testing for home brewers
- Brewing saisons and other funky beers
- Weird ingredients – what can you use and how to use them
The conference will also host the second Club Wars, a MasterChef-style ‘Mystery Box’ brewing competition between home brew clubs stretching from Northern NSW to Northern Queensland.
Aside from the straight informational sessions, there are a number of side events too:
Conference Dinner:
Hosted by Pete "Professor Pilsner" Mitcham, this will feature beers supplied by Queensland’s top home brewers matched to dishes produced by the chefs at Southbank School of Hospitality.
Mystery Bus Tour:
Visit some of Brisbane's best bars and breweries with someone else doing the driving. The tour takes in four venues and you get a complimentary beer at each, plus a Mystery Tour t-shirt.
Speigelau Beer Glass Demo:
Discover the difference a glass makes at Speigelau's genuinely fascinating tasting session which goes through four different types of glasses and how they impact the beer you put in them (and at the end of the session you get to keep the glasses...). This event was sold out last year so get in early.
