Dog Eat Dog at Dutch Trading Co.

There was a lot of fuss recently when Scotland's BrewDog opened up its recipe catalogue, allowing homebrewers to have a go at recreating BrewDog's beers. At the Dutch Trading Co, they thought it might be fun to use that newfound knowledge to pit BrewDog against their local home brewers.

The basic premise of the event is that they're inviting home brewers to go to BrewDog's DIY Dog website, download the catalogue and brew one of the following beers:

  • Dead Pony Club
  • 5am Saint
  • Punk IPA
  • Hardcore
  • Jackhammer

On 22 May at the DTC, they'll pit the home brewed versions against those brewed by BrewDog, with the beers being assessed by a panel of professional judges. What's more, BrewDog brewer Stephen Allerston will be the guest of honour.

In order to have a beer ready for the event, you'll need to get brewing quickly as entries must be in before May 15. You'll need to supply at least 2 litres of beer and entries must be in non-returnable vessels i.e. 4 x 500ml or 6 x 330ml bottles.

You must also register by contacting Joel at thedutchtradingco@gmail.com and pay a $20 fee per entry (this is to cover judging, stewarding, admin and gets you some food and beer at the final event).

If you don't want to brew but want to head along and check out the lineup of BrewDog beers on tap, tickets will be $20 which will include food and drink.
