Thanks mainly to the efforts of multinational corporates over the decades, lagers are frequently maligned in the realm of beer geekery. But, from a brewer's perspective, they can be damn hard to do well, their light flavour and character being unforgiving on faults and therefore showing off a brewer's skill when done right.
The lagering skills of several local brewers will be put to the test on Saturday November 26 when The Terminus hosts its Victorian Lager-Off.
This is the summer edition of their successful showcases of Victorian beers – the previous ones covering pale ales and IPAs – where the craft bar and beer garden gets transformed into a battleground of sorts, eleven local brewers pouring their best effort at a lager and trying to win over your enduring love (and a vote too). The following brewers will be spruiking their wares:
- Bridge Road
- BrewCult
- Hawkers
- 3 Ravens
- Fury & Son
- Boatrocker
- 2 Brothers
- Moon Dog
- Mornington Peninsula
- Dainton
- Temple
There'll be food specials running all day, a heap of prizes and other giveaways, plus DJs spinning the night away.
Tickets are $30 (early bird specials are available if you're quick) and can be booked here - and each ticket comes with a taster of all 11 lagers on offer.
