As Australia’s craft spirits industry continues to grow, Melbourne Moonshine is among those distilleries making their presence felt. The South Melbourne operation is in the market for a new distiller, so if you want to join the team, here's what you need to know

JOB DESCRIPTION: DISTILLER

Melbourne Moonshine is looking to hire a production team member to assist in the continued growth of production output. 

The role will be one of only a few in the production team so this is a great opportunity to become a key member of a business that is a part of the growing industry of craft spirits within Australia.

The Position

As we are a small team, you are generally expected to do almost all things required to produce, package and ship our products. These include (but are definitely not limited to): 

  • Grinding of Grain, Mashing and Fermentation of Moonshine, Grain Whiskey, Single Malt Whisky and other distilled products;
  • Distilling of various products
  • Tasting, quality control and monitoring of distillation outputs
  • Barrel aging and management of maturation
  • Bottling and packaging of products
  • Maintenance and cleaning of distillery and distillery equipment
  • Assisting in the expansion of the facility (planned for 2018)
  • Production planning and reporting – this role will be directly responsible for tracking distillery performance
  • Conducting presentations and tours of the distillery to visitors.
  • Available to work shift work when required

The Person 

The most important prerequisite is that you are hardworking and good fun to be around.  Melbourne Moonshine pride ourselves on being a fun (but at times hard) working environment so positive attitudes only need apply.  In addition to this, we seek the following experience;

  • A minimum of 2 years working in an alcohol production environment – ideally wine making or brewing on a commercial scale
  • Knowledge of fermentation principles and an understanding of fermentation control
  • Knowledge of industry standards of record keeping.
  • Experience in planning and assisting with preventative maintenance initiatives
  • Experience in stock control and inventory management
  • A good understanding of the spirits industry
  • A strong interest in Whiskey or other spirits
  • An Australian drivers license
  • A forklift and truck license would also be ideal
  • Applicants with formal qualifications in brewing and/or wine making will be looked upon favourably.
