JOB DESCRIPTION: HEAD BREWER (SYDNEY)
Here at Young Henrys we're looking for a Head Brewer to join and lead our Newtown brew crew.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who is as passionate as we are and wants to be part of our growing company. We’re looking for someone who has a minimum of 5 years commercial brewing experience, we need a solid legend with plenty of industry brews under their belt.
Our brewing team are all-rounders at various stages of their careers. So the successful candidate will not only be competent across all facets; from brewhouse, cellar and filtration to laboratory work and packaging but be able to train others, assess their performance and ability and mentor them on their journey.
Educationally you will need to have a Diploma in brewing or equivalent qualification. We need someone with a consistent work record, a solid academic background and the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical setting.
Our organisational set up has our Head Brewer working alongside our Production Manager and QC/QA Manager who between them cover brewery operations, brewing practice, volumes, scheduling, rostering, materials, maintenance, recipes, safety and quality. We believe in an integrated and flexible team and this position is no exception, we pull more weight together!
You’ll need to have proven leadership skills, be able to give the team direction, delegate responsibility and ensure tasks are on track. Our ideal head brewer will demonstrate superior problem solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing environments and plans. We’re looking for someone who is calm, can communicate clearly, be straightford, balanced and have a sense of humour! (At least laugh at my jokes)
Our brewery is still very hands on and our Head Brewer is no exception, with hoses to run, pumps to set up/breakdown and malt bags to lift so you’ll need to be physically fit. Multitasking and good time management are essential skills.
Recipe creation experience is a must, show us what you’ve done!
Young Henrys are committed to producing a consistent and quality product and as such we have pretty rigorous process protocols, not only do these need to be adhered to but we always look for ways to improve and streamline these processes. A demonstrated track record in continuous improvement would be an advantage.
We currently operate 7 days a week, so some weekend shifts will be a necessary part of the role.
