Craft Beer Rising Returns

Craft Beer Rising is back. The national day in celebration of Australian craft beer that we kickstarted in February 2014 returns on February 28. Last year, we ended up with 100 Risings (or events if you're a more prosaic sort) in six states so let's see if we can go bigger this time around.

Once again, the aim is purely to celebrate the wonderful change that has swept the Australian beer scene in the past few years. It's about sharing a beer with your local brewer or at the venues that bring you the good stuff all year round. It's about celebrating the choice we now have. It's about reminiscing about your craft beer journey. And it's about having a great time over a tasty brew or two with old friends and new.

Any breweries or venues wanting to register an event can do so at the Craft Beer Rising website (just click on the link to Register). And, once the Risings are registered, punters will be able to find out what's going on near them by clicking on one of the state tabs.

We've enhanced the site from last year, making it cleaner and adding maps by state so you can search for your nearest event that way. But in principle it remains the same. We're not expecting hosts to go nuts and create something outrageous: a simple chance to meet brewers or hyperlocal tap takeovers work well.

That said, we know many of you can't help yourselves and that there will once more be a cricket match (with added family activities) and at least one more new brewery launch.

For those who missed it last time around, we drew up a Craft Beer Rising Manifesto with ideas on how to enjoy the day and help spread the word about great local beer. It is:

  1. Head to your nearest brewery and share a beer with the brewer.
  2. Go to your nearest participating venue pouring all Aussie beer for the day and join in the fun.
  3. Take a trip down Memory Lane with the first Australian craft beer you ever enjoyed.
  4. Gift a bottle or glass of your favourite Aussie craft beer to a mate who claims they don'€™t like beer.
  5. If all your local venues sell crap beer, gift the landlord a bottle of your favourite Aussie craft beer and suggest they get with the program.

Once again, we're looking for your Instagram pics with all snaps tagged #CBR2015 appearing on the website and prizes on offer for the best. And you can show your allegiance in clothing form by snapping up a Craft Beer Rising t-shirt or hoodie featuring illustrator Andy Shaw's work here.

Thanks to Bintani, Cryer Malt and Good Beer Week for their support and to Code-Create for the website.

Here's to another great day celebrating local beer from local brewers at the best local venues.

NB All breweries and venues with their business listed on The Crafty Pint get to register their events for free. Check your email inbox for details.
