Crafty Six GBW Special #2: Something Completely Different

Among the many great things about beer is its versatility. If you're an adult, there aren't many fun activities to which it's not suited: BBQ, beach, watching sport, attending gigs, comedy and on and on. It's one reason why the Good Beer Week Good Times stream – the home for all manner of events at which entertainment comes first with good beer as an accompaniment – is growing so fast.

That said, when we were scouring the program to find some of the more colourful and unlikely events appearing in 2015, those that caught our eyes weren't just found in the Good Times stream. So, below, you'll find a Crafty Six made up of beer events worthy of the Pythons' catchphrase. All still had tickets left at time of publication.

You can check out also our first Crafty Six GBW Special: Da Funk here.

Platinum Liquor & Shenanigans Brewing Present: The Departed

Valhalla Social Cinema – May 23
$35pp

One of Sydney's longest established purveyors of quality beer has joined forces with a genuine rising star of the NSW brewing scene, Shenanigans, to create a beer pairing for the classic Scorsese movie The Departed. Craic into (sorry...) some BAH'SDIN Dry Irish Stout and Jameson whiskey in the unique surrounds of the Valhalla Social Cinema.

Crafty Cans

Queen Street Rescue – May 21
$25pp

Celebrating the rise of craft beer in cans with a sense of humour and possibly the best photo found in the Good Beer Week print program. Canned beer paired with dishes crafted from canned food. Will the Pythons' beloved Spam make an appearance?

The Perfect Randy

East End Den – May 19
$30pp

Mountain Goat invite you to have some fun playing with beer. Create your own infusions by adding aromatics to one of their beers, then vote for which team has created the best result. All while scoffing East End Den sliders. The winning team gets a voucher for the Goat Brewery Bar and their concoction will be pouring through Goat's Randy the Hopinator the following week too.

Ghosts, Ghouls & Craft Beer

Pentridge Prison – May 20
$110pp

Tooborac Beer invite you to join them in the former home of Chopper Read for one of the more unusual beer degustations we've heard of, comprising a three-course meal and a ghost tour.

Mountain Bike The Hidden Trails of Red Hill

Red Hill Brewery – May 24
$25pp

The brewers at Red Hill, fresh from celebrating their 10th anniversary, invite you to join them on a tour of the hidden mountain bike trails around their Mornington Peninsula home. Various standards catered for, with beer and food awaiting at the end.

Craft & Cult / Monsters of Hop

Grumpy's – May 20
$17pp

The Catfish – May 16
$25pp

If you're going to include metal gigs on the Good Beer Week program, why stop at one? The 2015 program sees three stoner metal bands play at Grumpy's as beers pour from ParrotDog, Two Birds, Moon Dog and Mountain Goat, while Monsters of Hop sees "local titans of heavy black doom WHITEHORSE" and support tear The Catfish a new one as KAIJU!, Dainton, Edge and Feral supply to accompaniment.

We'll be publishing more of these themed previews every Monday, Wednesday and Friday up until Good Beer Week. In the meantime, you can check out the five event streams below and all regional events here:

You can see where The Crafty Pint will be appearing (as well as see what's sold out) in our Event Diary listing here. We'll also be doing everything we can to ensure you know about all the pop-ups and meet the brewers taking place at the Pint of Origin venues too.
