Win A Good Beer Weekend

Good Beer Week already attracts hundreds of beer lovers to Melbourne each year to join in the festivities. And now it's looking to entice even more with the launch of a nationwide competition run in conjunction with Tourism Victoria and dozens of the country's best beer venues.

The Good Beer Weekend competition will see the winner and a friend flown to Melbourne for the final weekend of May's festival as part of a prize package worth more than $3,000. Full details on the competition can be found on the festival website here.

To enter, beer lovers have to visit one of the participating venues in Sydney, Newcastle, Canberra, Brisbane, Adelaide, Launceston, Hobart or the Perth region, grab a copy of the official print program and take a photo of themselves with it. They need to post the image on Facebook or Instagram, tagging the venue and completing the tiebreaker: "Fly me to @goodbeerweek for a #goodbeerweekend because ____________."

Programs will start arriving at venues from today (April 24). Deadline to enter is May 4.

As part of the package, the winners will enjoy degustations at some of Victoria's top dining establishments, including Rockwell & Sons, Andrew McConnell's Builders Arms and Shannon Bennett's latest venture at Burnham Beeches. They'll also receive VIP passes to the Good Beer Week closing party, tickets to GABS and enjoy a Belgian Beer Brunch to wrap up the weekend on Sunday morning plus three nights accommodation at Quest on Chapel and Uber travel between events.

GOOD BEER WEEKEND MEDIA RELEASE

Melbourne's Good Beer Week is calling on all beer loving Australians to be part of this year's festivities with the launch of a nationwide competition to win the ultimate Good Beer Weekend.

In partnership with Tourism Victoria and dozens of the country's finest beer venues and breweries, the festival is going to fly two lucky people to Melbourne for the closing weekend. The winner of the Good Beer Weekend competition and a friend will receive flights, accommodation, tickets to multiple Good Beer Week events, VIP passes, travel with Uber and more in a prize package valued at more than $3,000.

To enter, beer lovers simply need to head to one of the participating venues outside Victoria – view the full list at www.goodbeerweek.com.au/gbweekend – and pick up a copy of the official Good Beer Week print program. They then need to take a photo with it, post it on social media as directed and complete the tiebreaker:

“Fly me to @goodbeerweek for a #goodbeerweekend because_________."

Programs have been sent to venues in Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane, Canberra, Launceston, Hobart, Adelaide and Perth and surrounds. Entrants must be Australian residents aged over 18 and living outside Victoria.

Festival director James Smith says: “We've enjoyed welcoming growing numbers of interstate and overseas visitors to Melbourne and Victoria each year for what is becoming, for beer lovers, akin to Disneyland for adults.

“We believe that what we've created here with the support of the wider beer community is too good to be enjoyed by Victorians alone. So, with the generous support of Tourism Victoria, we're excited to be able to spread the word far and wide and make two people very happy indeed."

Earlier this year, Tourism Victoria announced that it was supporting the not for profit festival as it prepares to celebrate its fifth birthday. Their financial input is being matched by Good Beer Week to attract interstate visitors to what has been called “the best beer week in the world" by leading international brewers and has spawned similar festivals elsewhere, not just in Australia but Tokyo Beer Week too.

In announcing the $8,000 grant, Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren, said: “The Victorian Government is proud to be supporting Good Beer Week, which continues to expand its program of events and has been successful in attracting a growing interstate and international following.

“With its extensive program of events, Good Beer Week has played a central role consolidating Melbourne's reputation as Australia's beer capital."

The fifth Good Beer Week runs from May 16 to 24, 2015, and features 250 events at 180 venues across Melbourne and Victoria. The program includes the three-day Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular, the Australian International Beer Awards and the third Australian Craft Brewers Conference.

The full program can be viewed at goodbeerweek.com.au with close to 20 events already sold out. Details of how to enter the Good Beer Weekend competition can be found at goodbeerweek.com.au/gbweekend
