Feral's Taphouse Takeover

It’s today, folks. The long-heralded takeover of all 20 taps at both Local Taphouse venues in St Kilda and Darlinghurst by WA’s awesome Feral brewery starts at midday. There aren’t many brewers in Australia who could fill so many taps with their beers – and even fewer who could do it with such an array of vastly different styles – yet Brendan Varis and fellow brewer Will Irving continue to blaze a trail for Aussie brewing from their microbrewery in the Swan Valley, making them the obvious choice for what The Local Taphouse says will be the first of many brewery takeovers.

The lineup includes old favourites, including the former Champion Ale of Australia, Hop Hog, and former Australian Champion Barleywine, the Razorback, plus current Champion Ale The Runt and everything from Feral’s unique sour beers to the Karma Citra, a Black IPA that was the pick of many punters when launched at the Great Australian Beer SpecTAPular in February. There’s also the chance to sample the recently released Golden Ace, an intriguing hybrid of Belgian yeast and Japanese hops, before it arrives out East in bottles later in the month. The full tap list is as follows:

  1. Feral White (Belgian Witbier, 4.6%)
  2. Hop Hog (US IPA, 5.8%)
  3. Golden Ace (5.5%)
  4. Bohemian Pilsener (5%)
  5. Smoked Porter (4.5%)
  6. Rust (Belgian abbey ale, 6%)
  7. Farmhouse Ale (Saison, 4.3%)
  8. The Runt (American Pale Ale, 4.6%)
  9. Funky Junky (Wild Ale, 4.3%)
  10. Razorback (Barleywine, 9.8%)
  11. Karma Citra (5.9%)
  12. Boris (Russian Imperial Stout, 10.2%)
  13. BFH (oak fermented IPA, 5.8%)
  14. Fantapants (Double Red Ale, 7.4%)
  15. 983 (Pale Ale with Sorachi hops, 4.5%)
  16. IWit2.0 (Imperial Belgian Witbier, 7.5%)
  17. Nice Guy Dud Root Brown Ale (4.9%)
  18. Sail & Anchor IPA (British IPA, 5.2%)
  19. Brass Monkey Stout (Oatmeal Stout, 5%)
  20. Jose the Gose (Gose)

If you’re a Feral fan in South Australia, watch out for nine of their beers appearing on tap at The Wheaty later in the month too.
