Otherside kick off summer with a trio that covers all bases in the festive esky.
Lo-Fi has been a constant in the Otherside cohort for years: a dependable, citrus-forward mid-strength. Clearly, the ever-curious Myaree brewers wondered: "What if this was even more lo-fi? What if this was hazy?" – almost like adding another stomp box to the pedal board.
As you might expect from such a change, a variation of pervasive, soft, tropi-citrus themes plays out, however Otherside’s hero here is an impressive juicy palate weight for size, and the silkiest of lengths; Hazy Lo-Fi has shoegaze sustain with an acoustic ABV.
Raspberry Gose sees the flagship homebrew of Otherside brewer Steve York scaled up. The Christmasy drupe combines with a touch of passionfruit and hibiscus for colour, all of which conjures thoughts of soft serve raspberry swirls with a tart edge. More traditional additions of coriander and salt maintain the style’s heritage, however Raspberry Gose is very much ready for warm weather and enjoyment near water with very little to do.
Rounding out the triad is Otherside’s annual Christmas offering, this time returning with a plump sack of New Zealand hops, supported by a smattering of Aussie and US varieties. The festivities also find a sneaky addition of grapefruit and orange peel in the mix, which amplifies the smooth citrus stylings across the medium-weighted body. And, with a seasonally appropriate ABV providing a joyous nudge, this year’s Season’s Greetings is almost a beerfied mimosa – maybe save a can for Christmas morning!
