Urban Alley Brewery have released a steady stream of IPAs throughout 2024 and as the year draws to a close, they've unleashed Cerberus, a hazy IPA fresh from the Underworld. It's a beer that combines the new with the classic, thanks to a trio of hops: Cascade (in Cryo form), Krush (formerly known as HBC 586) and Riwaka SubZero Hop Kief. It's the last of those that seems to have the biggest impact, with a classic New Zealand mix of stonefruit, papaya and zesty grapefruit present from the start. Add in pineapple, honeydew, and passionfruit and you have a beer that's more a soft, cuddly and friendly labrador than demonic creature.
Also out in time for summer is Urban Alley's Blackberry & Pepperberry Sour; a collaboration with the ginmakers at Dasher+Fisher. These two berries are sourced from the distillery's home at the base of Cradle Mountain in Tasmania and they certainly make their presence known. In particular, the blackberry fills the beer with a lovely pink-meets-purple haze and a lasting sweetness which is in nturn balanced by the spice of the pepperberry and a rather intense sourness. In other words; when together, whether you're looking for a tropical or more refreshing way to relax over summer, Urban Alley has you sorted.
