The Crafty Pint normally avoids verbatim cut and paste content, however, when it’s as personal as this who’s going to argue with head brewer Kalle Wevel’s thoughts on what he describes as his “new summer obsession”…
Svea “evokes the Scandi summers I experienced growing up. Named for my grand aunt (pronounced Svee-ah) who would take care of us after school with fika, a proud Swedish tradition of afternoon coffee and sweet treats. Always with a glass of homemade raspberry and rhubarb cordial made from her own garden-grown fruit.”
Pouring opaque light pink, the fruit combo in Svea is evident from the get-go. A gentle dance of sweet malt and adjuncts swirls with modest tartness and refreshing zippiness, all balanced and with warm weather appropriate ABV. Svea may have had Scandinavian inspo, but it’s beautifully poised for a hot West Australian summer.
As, for that matter, is its sibling release. The original Nudi’s stellar 2024 run has seen multiple batches sell out, all while collecting awards bling, before a dark variant claimed WA Good Food Guide’s Beer of the Year. Now Seasonal welcome Nudi Mango edition, or what I keep calling Mango Nudi.
Slight recipe tweaks see El Dorado and Azzaca hops amplifying the considerable mango addition in an incredibly silky, lactose-free oat cream IPA. The lac-free intent restrains residual sweetness, heightening the drinkability across the Nudi range.
It’s a beer that needs a cocktail umbrella, or as Kalle puts it: “Still smooth, still thick, still Nudi – just wearing her summer clothes.”
