In a world of AI-generated images, it’s getting harder and harder to believe what you see on the internet. But if you see a picture of a beer from Slipstream that looks like Slimer from Ghostbusters… believe it.
Slipstream head brewer Gavin Croft regularly pushes his team’s creativity and skill with challenges. When their recent “smoothie beer” challenge led to brewer John Nguyen making a beer that looks like mint green paint yet actually tastes great, it was the birth of Pandan-Monium.
This beer looks bonkers. It’s not that I’ve never seen a green beer before – in fact, I’m having flashbacks to a similarly coloured One Drop beer from a few years ago – but, wow, this baby sure is green, with all of the colour coming from the pandan. It looks like a lime milkshake, with big residue-covered bubbles of the sort you get with an ice cream spider.
Vanilla ice cream, sticky rice pudding, and coconut ice aromas flow out of the glass, along with something I can’t place that I suppose must be pandan; I don’t actually know what pandan tastes like, and the internet isn’t that helpful. It drinks almost exactly like a milkshake, with a thick-and-creamy melted ice cream vibe that also has a nuttiness and tangy acidity amongst it all.
If it’s not already obvious, this is a beer that’s about the experience as well as the taste. Get a can. Roll it. Pour it. Drink it. Marvel at it.
