Some say beer should only have four ingredients, while others say throw whatever you’d like into the kettle and come up with whatever kind of dessert-like creation you can think of.
At Blackman’s Brewery, they do both.
Their Italian Pilsner is a beer's beer. Sure, the more heavily-hopped lager might bend some Czech or German noses out of joint, but enjoy its bready malt bill and crisp finish and you’ll find it as sessionable as they come. Add in a touch of straw, some subtle spice and a floral edge, and you have a lager that’s built to be drunk by the stein.
Then, there’s beer’s sweet side and their Raspberry & Coconut Ice Cream IPA, which was made alongside Gelato Gelato and beerstagrammer (and soon-to-be dad) The Hazy Squid (congratulations!). Imagine a raspberry lamington turned into ice cream and then turned back into beer and you’re on the right track. There are intense aromas of raspberry and coconut, a slick and smooth body and loads of lamington. But Blackman’s brewers don't let the adjuncts dominate the beer, with Ella, Nelson Sauvin and Sabro all bringing their own mix of tropical fruit and driving home the beer’s berry side while bringing just enough bitterness to balance out everything sweet.
