Well, they’ve done it again, folks: Good Land Brewing have brought together a mix of adjuncts that have no business combining in a beer and made it work. But then again, if you’re an avid baker, maybe you’re more accustomed to their Smoovie Blueberry Muffin ingredients than this writer is. After all, how do you bake such a treat, or brew a beer like this, without blueberry, banana, cinnamon, and lemon?
First things first, as is the tradition with Good Land’s Smoovie range, you’re going to want to make sure you’re ready to scrub with dishwashing liquid once your glass is empty, with the impenetrable purple beer leaving a slick residue along the side of any glass. But though thick in both appearance and texture, the flavours aren't so impervious, with the fruit and spice combination of blueberry, banana, and cinnamon all wrapped together with a surprising level of finesse, even if it's on the richer side of sours. Having said that, such sweetness is lightened up by lemon, with the zesty tartness adding a zippy finish.
By comparison, Hula Hoop is a straightforward and completely classic beer style. The DDH IPA features Citra and Mosaic hops, with the latter of those also added in Cryo and HyperBoost mode. Pouring pale straw, here you’ll find fresh orange juice, yellow peach, and passionfruit that dances across the tongue like a … well … like a hula hoop…
