Eagle Bay’s curious and progressive bent is also one WA’s most unassuming, yet it’s one that finds the brewers utilising some of each year’s sought-after hops and techniques, as evidenced by this misty IPA. Formerly known by the not-quite-as-fetching name HBC 586, Krush (a hop variety from Yakima Chief in the US, not a reference to KAIJU!'s flagship tropical pale ale) presents as a lupulin-driven, fruit cocktail affair that’s paired here with NZ hop variety Peacharine.
The combo welcomes mango Starburst, green papaya, white and tinned peach plus tropical sap that fleet through a deceptively light body that’s bereft of bitterness. Some might be expecting a more full or bold beer – especially with such hot hoppy property at play, but by the end of the can there’s a lasting sense of balance, making the prospect of another one oh so krushable.
