Temple New World Order Stout & Rye Hard IPA

Self-confessed dark beer lover Glenn Harrison has wasted little time imposing his dark passion upon his new brewery. The former Hargreaves Hill head brewer has only been in his post at Temple for a few weeks, but already his love of stouts cannot be contained. The New World Order is an American Stout and one of two new beers created under his stewardship that are out and about now. It's a pretty opaque, damn near jet black beer with the slightest ruby tinge and, being American influenced, has a pronounced hop aroma upfront (from Athanum, Centennial and Columbus for those paying attention at the back). There's a touch of soft roast and some tobacco on the nose as well, while to taste there's some sweet cocoa, nuttiness, a little of that roast and even some molasses too. It's a tasty, rounded beast. As is the second new release, Rye Hard, a rye IPA created with the Ale Stars from The Local Taphouse in St Kilda. The crew from the venue chose the style and also selected many of the (many) hops that feature within. Among them are Centennial, Santiam (an American hop of German parentage), Bramling Cross, Athanum, Challenger, Pride of Ringwood and Columbus. The result, unsurprisingly, is a rather hoppy beast with orange citrus, fruity berry, herbal ' even spicy - elements, with the rye adding to its bold, spicy malt character.
