Naked Lunch is the title of a drug-fuelled cult novel by William Burroughs, one that spawned a film by David Cronenberg as well as an awesome track by Bomb The Bass featuring Justin Warfield (given a sweet twist in a remix by La Funk Mob) and which has burnt the phrase Mugwump jism indelibly onto the Crafty mind for more than two decades. And now Naked Lunch is taking on a new life as the name of the fourth in the kettle sour series between Newstead Brewing and Croft Brewing.
Number four features 27kg of mangoes from the family farm of Newstead head brewer Mark Howes plus rarely seen Kiwi hops Waimea and Wa-iti. The brewers tell us it's "loaded with tart tropical fruits, especially pineapple, peach and mango."
They reckon it's also "the frozen moment when everyone sees what is on the end of every fork, or in this case, the bottom of the glass." And we were of the understanding you needed something other than beer to experience such clarity.
