Napoleone Brewers & Black Pearl Brownlow Ale

Napoleone Brewery & Cider House

Released August 22nd, 2016

The partnerships between small brewers and small bars continue to flourish. Jumping into bed together in Victoria for the first time in winter 2016 are legendary Fitzroy bar Black Pearl and Yarra Valley brewery Napoleone Brewers.

The fruit of their combined labour is a brown ale with an Aussie twist that will be pouring exclusively at the bar (other than a solitary keg that stayed behind at the brewery cellar door). The Aussie twist (apart from the name Brownlow) is the use of wattleseed alongside the specialty malts that were combined to create an otherwise pretty traditional brown ale.

The brewery tells us Brownlow has "plenty of biscuit, dark chocolate and roasted nut with toffee / praline characters and a touch of sweetness on the back of the palate." They reckon the wattleseed adds further malt complexity too. Meanwhile, as well as serving it straight, the BP team plans to use it as the basis for cocktails and in boilermaker pairings too.
