When Ben Kraus from Bridge Road Brewers was in town for the Tour Down Under, he decided to pedal past the Wheatsheaf Hotel for a quick collaboration. He even managed to squeeze some ingredients into his suitcases to contribute to the brew: a saison with a twist in the shape of Beechworth blackberries, honey, Adelaide Hills raspberries and vanilla.
Once poured into the glass, the saison has a pinkish hue from the berries and an illuminating golden glow. The head is best described as "blush" in colour and helps the berries jump from the glass, alongside some yeasty notes and an earthy aroma. Big flavours hit the tongue: zingy, zesty, tart and full of berries. It's evident that the saison yeast has worked over time too, with the beer finishing super dry and almost wine like. Berry tight indeed.
