Out of the quiet autumnal green pastures that surround the Mash Brewing’s Swan Valley brewery comes a big beer that’s assured and full of attitude – the IRA.
In creating this beer, head brewer Charlie Hodgson cuts a Gerry Adams like figure that straddles the divide between contrasting beer flavours of war and peace. The deep amber colour should serve as a warning for the additions of hop extract, hop pellets and whole hop cones that deliver citrus and pine hop aggression. This is tempered by the chewy malt base – the focus of any good red ale – that’s rich with caramel and dark toffee and comes with near 10 percent ABV alcohol warmth that runs the length of the palate.
Drinkers will need to be quick as this draught only release will be exploding onto the West Australian market for a limited time only. Check Mash’s Facebook for more venues.
