The two kilometre street that runs through the heart of Leederville aptly lends its name to Nowhereman’s reduced alcohol Steam Ale. Historically, the style is linked to the American Gold Rush and the production of a malty lager without the use of traditional refrigeration. While US immigrants were fueled by a gilded fever, the sides of Oxford Street were being used as market gardens after Chinese immigrants, who had come to Australia chasing a similar dream, found work following the local gold rush.
Should today’s urban workers call into Nowhereman and order a glass of Oxford St, they can look forward to an amber coloured steam ale where malt is the hero. Vienna malt, malted oats and wheat are used to create toasted, biscuity characters, while the Northern Brewer hops are dialed in to add a spiciness that compliments rather than dominates.
