Exit Brewing Double IPA

They’ve never shied away from going big with hops at Exit, whether it’s in the shape of their punchy core range IPA or a series of one-off PAs with varying prefixes: double, red, West Coast...

Among their most popular was #010, a fiercely bitter, no-holds-barred West Coast IPA that, thanks to the IIPA printed on the can here, was the sort of experience we expected when we tucked into the beer the can proclaims as possibly the “heaviest beer can ever”. But while it’s heavier, at least in terms of palate weight than other [enter your prefix here] PAs from Exit, it’s less aggressive, thanks to a malt bill featuring Munich and Crystal malts that keeps the bitterness in check.

As for hop character, the use of Chinook, Centennial, Sorachi Ace, Simcoe, Mosaic and Citra makes it something of a menagerie – there’s citrus, there’s pine, there's candied fruits, there’s earthy characters… In short, it’s an IIPA with lots to give, one that wants you to have fun. As for how often you'll be able to get your hands on it, we're told it's a seasonal, but one where the season may occur more than once a year...

UPDATE (9/19): They've had a little play with the hops, looking to "embiggen the hop profile". The beer remains a big IIPA in all ways, from the bold, burnt toffee malt character to the hops that take in ripe citrus and pineapple, candied blackcurrant and pine while delivering a deep, drying quality to balance any sweetness.
