They've gone for some no holds barred flavour explosions at Tallboy & Moose with this pair of beers. One is their latest collaboration with near neighbours Carwyn Cellars, who lent them a barrel that previously contained Iridium Gold Rum from Mt Uncle Distillery in North Queensland, into which was poured some of the brewpub's Malt Daddy vintage ale. The effect is to take what was already a rich, deeply malty beer, one with fruity, toffee characters sitting somewhere between an English old ale and a Belgian dark ale, and add even more sweet, dark rum characters plus oak and hints of coconut. Rum Daddy is launched at this party on August 10.
Also pouring on the night will be Berried Alive!, a beer that, if you didn't know better, you'd swear was a berry yoghurt drink. They're tagging it a "double dry-hopped hazy milkshake IPA", one brewed with mixed berries, lactose and vanilla, which come together to create that yoghurty sensation. Heavy hopping from Galaxy, El Dorado and Centennial lends it the barest hint of being a beer in the shape of a little OJ like tang, but essentially it's a creamy, fruity, sweet treat. It's also inspired by a Strawberry Milkshake IPA entered into a Merri Mashers homebrew comp by Angus Norris and Dylan Toune that Moose enjoyed so much he asked them to come and do something similar on a larger scale.
