4 Pines Nitro Stout

4 Pines (CUB)

Released August 1, 2019

It’s three years since Australia’s first crafty nitro beer in a can and a number of Aussie breweries have been toying with nitro tinnies recently… but we believe 4 Pines is the first in our fair land to give us a nitro dark beer in a bottle.

Nitro Stout has the same recipe as the original Stout (unchanged since 2009), but the addition of nitro makes it a fuller bodied, creamier version, recreating the way it was originally served on tap at the Manly Brewpub. It’s replacing the Stout in the brewery’s core range, with a metallic blue tweak to the label helping it stand out as something a little bit extra.

While it’s effectively the same beer with a different texture, some of the sweeter flavours of chocolate and caramel have been toned down by the nitrogen, leaving the deeper, more intense flavours as the more dominant ones: bitter black coffee, dark toast and a hint of cocoa flow together smoothly in the mouth. The creamy head gives a silky feeling on the tongue, and leaves lacing in the glass that endures beyond your last sip.

As with most cans of nitro beer, the bottle’s label gives instructions on how to pour the beer to get the full nitro effect: “FLIP IT - POUR IT HARD”.

Now to figure out how to do a proper nitro pour in space…
