Big Shed’s limited releases are flying out of their Port Road brewery thick and fast, with two more to add to their repertoire. The first is part of the Brewers Series, and sees brewer Bender try his luck at an oat cream IPA. Coming in at 5.9 percent ABV, Feelin Fine is brewed to be light and fluffy, which makes its cloudy appearance rather apposite, and it's evident hops drive everything about this beer.
Sweet, fleshy peach, lychee, nectarines and juicy papaya combine on the aroma front while memories of tropical punch come to mind on the first sip, again with the peach, nectarines and papaya hitting home hard, then a touch of coconut right at the end. The hops ride atop a soft and creamy, light, slightly sweet, lactose-enhanced base, with a reserved, easy-drinking bitterness.
For JuNEIPA, Big Shed teamed up with good friends and local distillers Never Never. A NEIPA was infused with Triple Juniper gin to create a 6.2 percent ABV blur between juicy beer and refreshing gin. Pouring with a deep haze, the aromas are super interesting, with orange citrus, some rosemary and juniper combining to create something similar to a bouquet of roses. Similar flavours roll over the palate on the first sip, starting with the juicy orange, a little herb and spice, following through to the juniper at the end. The blend between beer and gin works exceptionally well, with the elements working in delicious harmony.
