As is the Rocky Ridge way, as the months shift a multitude of new beers hits taps and tins. So, as we embark on a fabulous February, they serve up a lemon curd tart ale, a mango and macadamia ice cream sour, and their tried and tested Holy Sh*t It’s A Mid, with this reiteration featuring nectarine.
Fresh Outta Puns – the lemon curd tart ale – features heavy lemon and lime aromatics, with a touch of stonefruit and mango. Rich sweetness matches well with puckering tartness within a body viscous enough to also carry a sweet, biscuity pie crust like character. A lower carbonation is also pleasant and its dense, burnt orange hue is particularly striking.
As for Mango Mac Daddy, sourness also dominates against a bold backdrop of sweet mango nectar and a touch of sweet nuttiness. Though macadamia isn’t a dominant character, sweet vanilla and lactose are major players offering much needed balance to the tartness, and in the case of lactose specifically, a creamy and lasting mouthfeel.
Holy Sh!t It’s A Mid is moderately sour with just a touch of savoury saltiness meeting this version's sweet, vibrant nectarine and mixed stonefruit notes. A clean finish suits the 3.5 percent ABV, ensuring peak drinkability. Sour seems to be the flavour of the month for Rocky Ridge, a wise move given the warmer South West weather.
