If you were wondering if the regional town of Traralgon was as eager to explore craft beer’s many forms as anywhere else in Australia, then Good Lands Brewing certainly has the answer for you. The brewery only opened in 2021 but has shown a steadfast keenness to brew across styles and these three beers are a pretty good example of that. Pastel Neon Sour is an ongoing series of heavily-fruited sours, with the newest member championing stone fruit by featuring apricot and peaches. Of those two, the apricot seems to be the more notable player, impacting a lot of its hue on the beer to make it resemble apricot nectar, while also leading the charge in the taste department before stone fruit and puckering sourness roll in.
Le Fluide meanwhile is a saison with some 40 percent Triticale making up the malt bill. The hybrid of wheat and rye ensures the beer (or fluid, rather) pours a warming golden colour and provides quite a lush and smooth mouthfeel. The flavours meanwhile are very classically inspired and include cloves, bubblegum, some citrus zest and banana with a spice element that could be as much from the malt as the yeast.
Finally there’s Disco Tash Bomb, an oat cream DIPA with Vic Secret, Galaxy and Chinook thrown in early on and Galaxy, Citra and the experimental HBC 630 added later as a double dry hop. With lactose in the mix, it makes Le Fluide seem quite lean by comparison, while the hops hit with resin and tropical fruit at once, moving between pine, passionfruit, peach and Juicy Fruit gum.
