Towards the end of 2021, Temple Brewing got together with their mates at Oriental Teahouse to create a beer inspired by raspberry and lime tea. It may sound like an unusual flavour of tea but - much like many craft brewers - it doesn't really feel like the crew at the Melbourne restaurant likes to limit themselves, with quite a dizzying array of different types of tea on offer from their multiple homes. For GABS 2022, the collaborators come together again to create Strawberry & Cream Tea Party, which uses some 10 kilograms of fruit tea and a further 60kgs of strawberry puree.
The distinct wave of strawberry immediately brings to mind a sour lolly featuring the fruit while the creamy vanilla follows through quite quickly before being washed away in a tart finish. Given the Tea Party part of the name, it feels like there's one food and one food only you should be pairing this beer with. Sure Oriental Teahouse might be well known for their yum cha and dumplings but you certainly shouldn't look past taking this beer to your nan's place for morning tea and serving it alongside a plate of scones.
