Bendigo Brewing is, in many ways, the culmination of a mission to bring craft beer to the regional city that started more than a decade earlier with the launch of Bendigo Beer. The group helped popularise beer from indie brewers via tastings and other small events before creating the long-running Bendigo On The Hop and other notable ventures.
The team there are part of a wider group behind Bendigo Brewing, which opened on the edge of the CBD in November 2024 after a fairly tortuous path that saw them navigating pretty much every hurdle you can imagine to reach their goal.
At the helm of all things brewing is Evan Hunter, who moved to Bendigo from Tasmania with wife Steph – also part of the brewery team – as the project was taking shape. He's been making delicious drinks as long as he's been legally allowed to drink them, at the likes of Lark Distillery, Seven Sheds and Bruny Island Brewing, and is now responsible for creating a rotating lineup of both traditional and contemporary beers at 25 Farmer Lane, where you'll find both a wall of taps and a couple of English hand pumps.
