Of all the trends to filter through the Aussie craft beer world of late, the one that seems to have gone further and faster than all others is the rise of canned beer. Where just a few short years ago you could count the number of craft beers being put in cans on your own digits, it's now almost become the default packaging preference.
And there's a certain section of the beer community for whom this is an extra boon: can collectors.
The 2018 edition of the annual Canfest Collectors Fair will be held at the Mirambeena Community Centre in Lavington, NSW on January 20-21 and it's a chance for can collectors to swap and sell their memorabilia.
As with previous years, the event will feature a limited edition can (as in, you can't get it anywhere else at all) filled with beer from Coopers (the 2017 festival can is pictured above). The 2018 can will feature art based on local Albury icons and to get it you'll need to register as they're not for sale, except through the club post-event.
There's an early bird discount for registrations completed before November 30 and that gets you a six pack of the limited edition can too.
The festival will be open from 9:30am-4pm on the Saturday and 9:30am-12pm on the Sunday. For more details, or to take take part or set up a stall, email the organiser here.
Note to registered stallholders: Setup is on Friday January 19 from 4pm at 19 Martha Mews, Lavington.
