One style. Two breweries. Fourteen venues.
Last month saw Calibre Distribution’s Henry Wu bring together 14 craft beer venues and two breweries from north and south of the Brisbane river to brew two collars – both variations on the IPA style.
The premise: the northern bars and brewery would use only Northern Hemisphere hops while the southern brewery and bars would use only Southern Hemisphere hops.
Brouhaha on the Sunshine Coast teamed up with Netherworld, The Scratch, The Mill, Tapworks, Fitz + Potts, Brewski, and Zero Fox.
Slipstream (pictured above) in Yerongpilly teamed up with The Burrow, Saccharomyces, BOSC, Tippler’s Tap, Pour Choices, Archive and Wandering Cooks.
Both are being tapped side by side at the venues on November 17, less as competition more in celebration of the cherished IPA and, more importantly, the venues that unequivocally support all that is good and beery in Brisbane.
“It’s more of a ‘Friendship brew’ rather than a North vs South," says Henry. "I wanted people of Australia to know what the Brisbane craft beer scene is about, which is working together."
If you'd like to be part of this mutual love-in, head to one of the participating venues on November 17. And remember, it’s not a competition, you don’t have to choose a favourite, just experience a rippa IPA bought to you by collaboration, not competition.
