Meet Lagunitas' Founder Tony Magee at the Great Northern Hotel (VIC)

It's a courtship that's been going on years, one that's involved many trips to Lagunitas' home in the States, multiple container loads of Lagunitas beer heading to Melbourne and plenty of conversations in between.

And now the end game is here, as one of the most charismatic men in the world of American craft beer heads to the Great Northern Hotel in Carlton North for a Meet The Brewer – with added live music.

Tony Magee is the founder of Lagunitas, the storied Californian brewery known as much for the colourful tales that have peppered its history as the classic beers it's produced, and he's making a first visit to Australia during Good Beer Week.

While the visit was first mooted long after the festival program was locked in, you can still join him, drink his beers, hear his stories then watch as he plays an intimate gig in the beer garden with the newly formed Lagunitas Blues and Boogie Band, made up of local blues and jazz performers.

The party kicks off at high noon, and there will be a special 4.20 tapping of the infamous Great Northern Lagunitas library, as well as fresh beer straight from the California brewery that's now owned by Heineken.

You can meet Dr Professor Patrick Mace, the official Lagunitas Aleoenterologist, Frickle Master Extraordinaire and general All Round Superstar too, who's returning to his Melbourne home from home.
