International IPA Day with Prince Alfred (VIC)

It's no Feast of Maximum Occupancy, but in the broader realm of completely made-up occasions to bunk off and go drinkin', International IPA Day – otherwise known as the first Thursday in August – is one that's genuinely caught on in Australia in recent times.

Past years have seen a glut of epic events, from hop masterclasses to all-IPA tap showcases, being held around the country in celebration of all things heavily hopped. This year has turned out rather different for obvious reasons, but where there's a will there's a way. And the crew at Prince Alfred in Port Melbourne have found their way: takeaway IPA by the litre.

On August 6 they're loading their taps with eight IPAs that cover the (very) broad IPA styles of West Coast, New England, Milkshake, Sour, Citrus, Red and Black.

All of them will be available for takeaway for a price of $13 per litre, or 4 litres for $44. And for the less committed but rather more curious, they'll have an eight IPA take-home taster for $30.

They'll be open between 4pm-8pm and serving takeaway food too, so you might as well make an evening of it.
