Enrol For The Kangan Institute's Micro-Brewing Course
5pm 7 Feb, 2022

Anyone aiming to get into brewing or advance an existing career in brewing can give themselves a head start by enrolling for the Kangan Institute's Micro Brewing course, which commences on February 7, 2022.

The Certificate III in Food Processing course is a comprehensive introduction that covers both general industry knowledge – food safety, food quality, sustainability and OHS – alongside specific brewing skills including wort production, fermentation, beer maturation, filtration, packaging and product testing.

On the course you'll learn how to:

  • Produce good quality wort
  • Manage, propagate & monitor yeast in the brewery
  • Test pH, SG, yeast count and viability
  • Critically assess beer and identify faults
  • Clean tanks and pipework effectively and develop cleaning & sanitation plans

Completing the course involves a mix of online learning, on-campus practical work, and work placement (20 to 30 days throughout the course).

The Kangan Micro-Brewing Course is designed to benefit existing brewery workers, those looking to enter the brewing industry, and those wanting to set up their own microbrewery. And if you own a brewery, it's a good option for upskilling your entry level staff and trainees.

Case Study

For bank employee Rohan Kennedy (pictured above), his interest in the craft evolved from YouTube video guides to seeking a formal course in micro-brewing.

Delivered predominantly online with on-campus practical work and industry placements, Kangan Institute’s Certificate III in Food Processing (Micro-Brewing) (FBP30117) fit the bill.

“We’ve got access to a teacher who is working as a craft brewer and able to give good, specific technical advice to some of the challenges we face in small batch brewing. This includes simple tips and tricks that’s helped me improve,” he said.
