Registrations have opened for Good Beer Week 2023 as the festival returns to Melbourne in May.
It promises to be a little different to the most recent festivals too, and will give beer lovers more than two weeks of good beer events to explore.
With the Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) running the week after GABS, the Independent Brewers Association (IBA) has decided to run Good Beer Week then too.
As a result, the fun kicks off with Pint of Origin (May 12 to 21), GABS Melbourne (May 19 to 21), and then Good Beer Week (May 20 to 27), with the AIBA ceremony on May 25.
The Good Beer Week team will also be curating a smaller program limited to the 100 "best of the best" event concepts, which will be focused on Australian independent beer and brewers – IBA members will receive a 15 percent discount if their event is selected.
IBA CEO Kylie Lethbridge said: “In fact, for beer fans it's going to be almost three weeks of everything beer.
“Our partners will also deliver cracking programs with Pint of Origin rolling from 12 to 21 May and the Great Australian Beer Spectacular (GABS) Craft Beer & Cider Festival from 19 - 21 May. And for the industry, the Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) ceremony on 25 May.
“COVID-19 taught us a lot and allowed us the time to reflect on the past 12 years to determine how GBW can keep evolving to meet consumer demands and offer the best possible innovative beer experiences. We have taken on board feedback from festival goers and event hosts and now offer an opportunity to participate in 2023 which is all about trying new things.”
At this stage, they're after ideas with the successful applicants informed once submissions close on January 31, 2023. The IBA are looking for:
- The biggest and wildest ideas.
- Not be something you can experience outside of GBW e.g., beer launch, tap takeover, meet the brewer, education on beer styles.
- Good value events.
- Events in regional Victoria.
- Events that actively practice and promote the responsible service and use of alcohol. eg no beer pong!
