Lager, eh. The style was once a bit of a dirty word in the nascent local craft beer scene, but in recent years it's followed a trophy-laden redemptive arc back into the arms and mouths of discerning drinkers who have been reminded of an old trope: there really is nothing better than a cool, crisp, refreshing beer on a hot day.
So if you were going to host a celebration of lager, what better place to do it than in the so-called Sunshine State? "No place!" reckon the crew at Felons, so they're doing it.
Lagerpalooza will be held on the long weekend of September 30 to October 2 at the Howard Smith Wharves and will feature a thirst-crushing range of lagers from brewers across the land, such as Range, Stomping Ground, Hop Nation, Wayward, Eagle Bay – they'll even have the odd international guest like the UK's Lost & Grounded plus a Lager Friends Bar curated by The Crafty Pint. There'll be plenty of beer-friendly food going down, from freshly shucked oysters to rotisserie chicken, artisanal cheese to a monster Argentinian grill. And for your viewing pleasure, there'll be roaming performers, lively outdoor music, and free family-friendly entertainment; dunk the brewer, anyone?
There are two tickets types: "Likes Lager" includes a glass plus your first beer for $20pp, or "Loves Lager" which gives you unlimited tastings for the duration of the session, a tote bag, festival pin, and access to a private alfresco area; these cost $90pp.
