You could make a reasonable case to say Hobart has one of the most vibrant brewing and distilling scenes of any Australian city. So it's not before time (nearly 20 years, in fact) that the southern capital will return to hosting duties for the IBD (Institute of Brewing and Distilling) Asia Pacific Convention.
The 2025 event will take place at the Hotel Grand Chancellor between March 4 and 6 and will see industry types gather for an educational and networking event par excellence. There are also brewery and distillery tours on March 3 and 7.
The overarching theme of the convention is one that's on many a booze producer's radar: “Adaptability – Crafting great beverages in a changing market”.
Beneath that umbrella there will be sub-threads covering innovation, provenance, local-to-global trends, premiumisation and quality, and much more. And within those you'll be able to delve into all manner of science and technical stuff, from sustainability and supply chains to equipment efficiency and yeast nerdery; given it's 2025, there'll even be a touch of AI.
You can check out the preliminary program here for all the details.
As well as gaining bucketloads of information from experts in their fields, attendees will get to take in hop harvests, distillery visits, enjoy amazing southern scenery, and get stuck into exceptional Tassie food. Heck, it'll probably feel like a holiday as much as a work event.
