Bendigo On The Hop
The good guys and gals of Bendigo Beer are continuing to bang the drum for better beer in their region. Bendigo On The Hop is a new day-long festival on August 16 that is designed to highlight as much of the Victorian city's craft beer goodness as possible. It will feature beers and brewers from 18 local and national breweries. According to the organisers: "In the last three years, the number of craft beer venues in central Victoria has grown from a handful to over 50, in part due to the hard work and dedication from the team at Bendigo Beer. "Bendigo on the Hop is believed to be Australia's only winter craft beer event and has caught the attention of industry leaders as a unique concept. So much so, all 18 spots available for local and national breweries were quickly snapped up, some of which will brew one-off beers just for the event." Designed as a relaxed, moveable celebration, it takes in ten venues around the Bendigo CBD and allows patrons to sample local produce matched to the beers on offer, talk to the brewers and be entertained by acoustic and electronic artists. 'Hop Classes at [The Dispensary Enoteca](/beer/bar/the-dispensary-enoteca/) will also be available for the more inquisitive beer lover looking to learn more about craft beer. There will also be a mini-circus at The Exchange, some limited release kegs of Bridge Road B2 Bomber Mach 4 and the launch of 7 Cent's 'Get to The Hoppa Double IPA. Bendigo Beer's Trevor Birks said it was a testament to how far Bendigo has come on the national craft beer scene. 'We certainly could not have attempted this back in 2011 when Bendigo Beer began," he says. "It is a huge compliment to the city's good beer and food venues that have pioneered craft beer over the last three years. The event is different to most beer festivals in that Bendigo's CBD venues will be the heroes. One of the participating breweries is Mountain Goat, whose Victoria rep Simon Frake says: 'We're really proud and excited to be part of Bendigo on the Hop; it ticked all the right boxes in terms of being good for the consumer, good for the venues and good for the breweries participating. The concept is unique and really appeals to us as it's almost like a guided waking tour of great craft venues, people and beers. Tickets cost $45pp and that includes a souvenir glass, program and a tasting of each beer.
