Cheers 4 Noah at Grain Store (NSW)

As important as beer may seem some days, it is not the most important thing.

On Australia Day, the Grain Store's former Head Chef took his own life and left behind a soon-to-be three year old son, Noah. The time since the death has obviously been a tough one for the family, friends and wider community and, for the team at the Grain Store, it is only recently that they have been able to start thinking about how best to move forward.

The first step was simply a desire to tell people that if you're feeling down it's ok – it's good – to talk to someone. As such, they've been raising awareness of services such as Lifeline

The next thing they felt was important was to ensure Noah was well looked after and knew that people cared about what had happened. To that end, rather than cancelling their forthcoming beer degustation, they're using it to launch a trust fund for Noah, with proceeds from the event (a six course feast with Black Hops) kicking off the fund – you can get any remaining tickets for that event here.

Following that, to coincide with Noah's third birthday on February 28, the Grain Store will be hosting the first of what will be an annual event called Cheers 4 Noah. Breweries will be donating karma kegs and anyone can come in, pay what they like for a beer and all proceeds will go towards topping up Noah's trust fund. The beers pouring will be from Black Hops, BentSpoke, Young Henrys, Bridge Road, Hope Brewhouse, BrewCult, Modus Operandi, Stone & Wood, FogHorn Brewhouse, Akasha, Feral, Pirate Life, Two Heads, 4 Pines, Two Birds, Stomping Ground, Stockade, Grainfed, Hunter Beer Co. and Tilse's Cider.

The other component will be a raffle to raise further funds, so if you have something you would like to donate and which can be raffled off – whether it be products, vouchers, merchandise, event tickets, accommodation or anything else – any money raised from it will go to a good cause. So far the prizes include a surfing/brewing weekend in Byron Bay with Stone & Wood, a Hunter Valley holiday, tickets to sports events and concerts, a new computer, restaurant vouchers, cases of beer/wine/whiskey and a mountain more.

For any financial donations, the trust details are as follows:

Account: Noah James Price
BSB: 062 806
ACC: 1040 8803

If you have something to donate to the raffle, contact corey@grainstorenewcastle.com.au

If you feel you need to talk to someone, give Lifeline a call: www.lifeline.org.au

UPDATE...

The folks at the Royal Albert Hotel are getting involved in the event too – the profits for all beer sales on Tuesday February 28 will go to Noah's trust fund and Lifeline.
