Bad Shepherd are responsible for an incredibly colourful lineup of beers each year and it feels like there's no style under the sun they aren't willing to try their hand at brewing. 

If you want to play a key role in creating all those beers, they're hiring a research and innovation brewer. 


Job Description: Research and innovation Brewer

We are Bad Shepherd Brewing Co., a multi award winning independent Brewery located in the Bayside suburb of Cheltenham, Victoria.

We're looking for a highly motivated new team member to join our team. 

About the role

  • A leader responsible for the nurture and development of new products at Bad Shepherd.  
  • Gathers, analyzes, and maintains product and technology trend information and conducts idea generation sessions to initiate creation of new beer concepts and products.
  • Design and conduct benchtop experiments.
  • Work closely with the head brewer and collaborate to drive innovation ideas.
  • Develop and maintain 12 month NPD calendar and communicate progress against plans to the leadership team on a regular basis.
  • Identify NPD requirements and prepare sample batches for feasibility, prioritisation and approval. 
  • Identify key technical/financial hurdles and deliverables to ensure commercial success. 
  • Identify new product opportunities and technologies for presentation to senior management.
  • Engage cross functional teams to deliver successful innovation projects.
  • Maintain quality sensory processes to ensure high quality products.

We’d love to hear from people with...

  • Passion about craft brewing and the beer industry.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in home and/or commercial brewing including recipe development, beverage innovation/product development. 
  • Previous experience in a similar R&D role will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in Quality Assurance preferred, but not essential. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of beer consumer trends and brewing technology.
  • Knowledge of development and scale-up of beverage products.
  • Knowledge of food quality control, safety, and microbiology.
  • Knowledge of sensory, experimental design.
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills.
  • Strong team player with a positive can-do attitude
  • Highly organised with a keen attention to detail
  • A strong work ethic and desire to succeed and grow.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen with the ability to deliver viable products.
