Job Description: Assistant Packaging Manager

Capital Brewing Co is one of Australia’s largest independently owned craft breweries and has been making award-winning Good Natured Brews from our Canberra brewery and taproom since mid-2017. We have recently achieved B Corp Certification, one of only 3 breweries in Australia to hold the certification, and we are the first brewery in Australia to certify carbon neutral under the Federal Government Climate Active Program.

The opportunity now exists for an experienced and suitably qualified Assistant Packaging Manager to lead our Packaging team, we’re looking for a people-centered leader with technical aptitude and a love of great beer! 

Position Overview

  • Responsible for assisting the Packaging Manager in the management and supervision of packaging operations for both canned and kegged products at Capital Brewing Co Fyshwick 
  • Managing a safe working environment, ensuring staff are adequately supervised and complying with safe operating procedures and the business safety management system 
  • Managing packaged product quality control and regular testing and data recording 

Role and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensures all staff are inducted into the safety management system and trained in the safe operating procedures for their area of work 
  • Supervises staff to ensure they are working as per Safe Operating Procedures in their area 
  • Assists in planning packaging operations including staff rostering, dry goods movements on site, finished product counts, set up and pack down 
  • Assists in managing staff hours, workflow and task allocation for optimum efficiency 
  • Oversees quality control of all packaged product including but not limited to fill levels, seam integrity, dissolved oxygen and carbonation. 
  • Packaging line operation including filler, depaletiser and end of line equipment 
  • Assists in preventative maintenance scheduling on all packaging equipment to prevent reactive maintenance and downtime 
  • Assists with process improvement to improve quality, shelf life and product stability 
  • Identifies efficiency improvements to reduce wastage, improve accuracy of fill levels and increase profitability. 
  • Maintains a clean and sanitised work area and equipment with daily and weekly cleaning activities. 
  • Carries out other tasks around the brewery depending on packaging volumes 
  • Assists in continual improvement program, assist in developing processes and system improvements to optimise safety, efficiency and profitability 
  • Assists in the commissioning of and training with new packaging equipment 
  • Makes suggestions for improvement as appropriate

Key Performance Indicators 

  • All designated tasks are completed in a timely manner, adhering to deadlines and producing work to a consistently high standard; 
  • Produce all packaged beer to specifications and maintain quality assurance. 
  • Promote and implement efficient working practices whilst keeping accurate records of inputs, processes and outputs. 
  • Lead by example and ensure the team is always working safely.
