Boatrocker Brewers & Distillers opened Australia's first dedicated Barrel Room in 2015 and recently merged with Perth's Hippocampus to bring distilling under its roof too. If you'd like to join one of the country's leading barrel ageing breweries, there are openings for two brewers.

JOB DESCRIPTION: LEAD BREWER

Boatrocker Brewers & Distillers is seeking a lead brewer to join the team at Australia’s foremost barrel ageing brewery located in Melbourne’s South East. The successful applicant will have a minimum of three years’ experience in commercial brewing and packaging operations.

Essential Duties and Requirements of the Successful Applicant

  • Perform the role of brewing, cellar/barrel management, packaging, QA/QC procedures
  • Understand the how and why of maintaining a clean and safe working & brewing environment
  • An excellent problem solving/trouble-shooting ability
  • Knowledge of and experience with modern packaging & keg equipment
  • The ability to author SOP’s for equipment and processes
  • Forklift barrels, product and raw materials safely

The successful candidate will:

  • Be team focused, have strong integrity, and a desire to be consistently excellent
  • Have an excellent understanding of what it means to work safely
  • Have the physical ability to perform all the physical requirements of the job
  • Be confident working unsupervised, but happy and willing to be a team player
  • Be keen and able to learn new skills with the ability to pass on these skills to others
  • Experienced with modern IT equipment and programs e.g.. MS Office (Excel, Word etc), apps
  • Supervise the operation of our brewery, involving all aspects as required of the brew.
  • Be responsible for the efficient running of the brewhouse, maintaining consistency and accuracy across the core range. You will provide supervision for other brewers.
  • Have similar hands-on responsibilities as a brewer position, such as CIP/SIP of equipment, yeast handling, keg filling, pack line operations etc.
  • Be responsible for co-ordinating with other brewers.
  • Be willing to learn about all aspects of barrel production and distillation.

Skills and Education

  • Knowledge of and experience with barrel ageing looked upon favourably
  • IBD Diploma or equivalent brewing qualifications looked upon favourably, but not essential
  • Forklift licence essential
  • A desire to learn about craft distillation essential
