Malt Shed Brewery has brought local beer to the people of Wangaratta for the first time in decades. As brewpub operators, the folks behind Malt Shed are just as serious about their food menu too and are looking for a new head chef to join them.

Job Description: Head Chef

Reports to: Directors 

Availability: Weekdays, along with weekends and evenings are necessary

The Malt Shed head chef is a full time position and he/she needs to be highly motivated with a passion for the hospitality industry. The venue at Malt Shed provides customers the opportunity to match our beers with our innovative, fresh and diverse menu. We strive to give our customers an exceptional experience from the service they receive, to the beers they drink, to the relaxed friendly space they drink it in. As the Head Chef you will be working with a team of people committed to providing exceptional service and food to Malt Shed customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Controlling and directing the food preparation process and any other relative activities
  • Constructing menus with new or existing culinary creations ensuring the variety and quality of the servings
  • Overall responsibility for the kitchen’s daily operations.
  • Liaising with the relevant companies for food orders.
  • Be in charge of managing, training and mentoring kitchen staff
  • Maintaining/raising the food’s profit margins.
  • Monitoring and controlling stock levels; estimating costs and ensuring all purchases come within budget.
  • Ensuring correct stock rotation procedures are followed.
  • Implementation of health and safety procedures in the kitchen.
  • Taking care of the kitchen’s accounts and creating a work roster
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards, along with keeping the appropriate records or logs.
  • Maintain an enthusiastic and helpful approach at all times
  • Be self-motivated to work autonomously and collectively as part of a team
  • Be well presented at all times
  • Have a passion for the hospitality industry

Experience / Skills

  • Proven leadership experience and outstanding communication
  • Exceptional proven ability of kitchen management
  • Ability in dividing responsibilities and monitoring progress
  • Up-to-date with culinary trends and optimized kitchen processes
  • Commitment to quality service and food knowledge
  • Be self-motivated to work autonomously and collectively as part of a team
  • Be well presented at all times

The head chef will work with a great bunch of ambitious, friendly and capable staff members while bringing the experience of the Malt Shed to all brewery visitors. As the Head Chef you need to be a team player who enjoys working with people, sharing a passion for beer and a desire to grow with the Malt Shed.
