Job Description: Bar Manager

The Catfish is one of Melbourne’s most recognised and awarded independent craft beer bars. Having carved out it’s reputation for great beer, live music and the original home of Sparrow’s Philly Cheesesteaks Our motto of "Good Booze, No Pretension" holds firm. 

Operating seven days a week from lunch, until late night, The Catfish has a rotating tap and packaged beer list.  We are currently looking for a full time Bar Manger. The candidate will work closely with venue management and owners to help maintain our overall awesomeness.

The Catfish has a diverse group of regulars and offerings. It is known for its live music, regular comedy nights, Superbowl parties and is a well known hub for beer fans during Good Beer Week and other beer events. 

The candidate (that’s you) will ideally have more than four years of management experience. They will have a solid understanding of the crafty beer scene (Australian and international,) as well as good general knowledge of wine, spirits and customer service.

The ideal candidate will oversee the evolution of the venue, as well as day to day operations. You will be a part of the planning events, ie; Good Beer Week, Product launches, collaboration brews, NFL days and Our (In)famous birthday Poker Crawl. Help to lead, and train a vibrant, energetic and dedicated team. The successful applicant will offer genuine, friendly, customer-orientated service.

Job tasks and responsibilities:

  • Management of venue; including (but not limited to) cost control, labour management, stock control
  • Drive and help maintain the bar’s commitment to independent beer (National and international)
  • Become part of, and help further develop our close knit team of staff
  • Continue to put customer service at the forefront of our service levels
  • Ensuring compliance with liquor licensing, council regulations, food safety, WHS and other relevant legislative instruments
  • Approved Manager (Liquor License)

Skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and train a team of staff
  • Pragmatic approach to problem solving and troubleshooting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Genuine desire to be part of, and maintain the friendly and local’s culture  
  • A passion for, and knowledge of, craft beer
  • Strong communication skills
  • A personable/positive attitude
  • At least 3 years of previous management experience
  • Friendly, positive and approachable attitude
  • Current VIC RSA
  • Must have unrestricted Australian work rights
