Sauce Brewing are based in the craft beer haven that is Sydney's inner west and plan to open a brewpub in Cairns this year.

If you want to lead all things beer for the operation in Far North Queensland, the Sauce team is after a head brewer.

Job Description: Head Brewer

Sauce Brewing Co is one of Australia’s most exciting craft breweries. https://sauce.beer/

Our main brewery is in the heart of Australia’s craft-beer capital – Marrickville in Sydney’s inner-west.

We are a small team of passionate people, producing some of the best beers (we think) this side of Pluto. We have a solid core range and a regular special batch program. Sauce is now well established and enjoys a strong brand presence nationwide.

We are soon to open a second brewpub in Cairns (Far North Queensland) and so we are on the hunt for an experienced and well-organised head brewer to run the brewing side of things.

As part of a dynamic, entrepreneurial culture, the successful candidate will be highly self-motivated and driven.

As the key person responsible for all things brewing in Cairns, you’ll work closely with the local venue manager to create a Sauce experience that blends a little bit of the Inner West, with the tropical environs of Cairns. You’ll be brewing all our core range beers (with guidance and training provided at Marrickville), as well as creating new small-batch beers unique to FNQ.

What’s involved:

  • Running the production side of the brewery
  • Recipe Development
  • Quality control
  • Ingredients management (purchasing and stock control)
  • Working closely with other people in the business
  • Representing the business in the venue and at local events

Minimum Skills Required

  • A passion for beer and a complete understanding of the brewing & packaging processes
  • Several years’ experience in a technical brewing position
  • Practical with a hands-on “can do” attitude
  • Experience with production planning, monitoring and forecasting inventory levels
  • Fanatical about cleaning, sanitation and quality control
  • Able to perform basic maintenance on equipment
  • Creative and able to develop new and innovative recipes.
  • Highly organised, diligent and responsible, able to multi-task, prioritise and self-manage
  • The ability to talk about beer and be knowledgeable when training staff and customers
  • Good customer service & communication skills
  • Strong understanding of OH&S in a brewery environment
  • Driver’s license, RSA
  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic

Preferable Skills

  • Formal brewing qualification
  • Experience with Ekos Brewmaster software
