Matilda Bay helped kickstart craft beer in Australia decades ago and today has a new home in the Yarra Valley, led by founder Phil Sexton.

If you'd like to join the Healesville team, they're on the hunt for an assistant brewer.

Job Description: Assistant Brewer

Location: Healesville, Yarra Valley

Reports to: Brewery Manager

Position Type: Full-Time

Come and help us change the world of Australian beer, again.

Matilda Bay is scouring our country for an Assistant Brewer who is after the best of both worlds – a truly entrepreneurial environment and the security and financial resources to quickly grow and scale up. We’re moving fast, so if you’ve ever wanted to be part of – and actively contribute to – an ongoing brewery build, look no further. This is truly totally unique opportunity to roll your sleeves up and be part of the re-birth of the original Australian craft beer.

You’ll be joining a hungry, smart and experienced team from all types of backgrounds, with the common aim to change the world of Australian beer, again, and put Matilda Bay back on the global craft map. From humble beginnings in the now historic Sail & Anchor in Perth in 1983, we’ve travelled 3500kms to find the optimum water to create beautiful beer. You’ll join us in our new sustainable home in the Yarra Valley, completely sun-powered and working towards 100% end-to-end sustainability. Not only that, but we have the original founder and brewing maverick Phil Sexton back at the helm.

You may not have tried all of our beers, but this is the brewery that in its time has produced the legendary and award-winning Redback, Alpha Pale, and Dogbolter beers.

Alongside some of these classics, reinvented and reimagined, you will be brewing a new range of market-changing beers.

Some of the things you’ll be responsible for:

  • Daily brewing, cellaring, filtration, bottling and keg racking operations
  • Performing quality control, maintenance, and warehouse tasks
  • Everyday problem solving around the brewery
  • Being flexible as we ramp up to a 24hour brewing operation to support the growth of the business
  • Spreading news and knowledge of our Matilda Bay craft beer range and brewing operations at company and public events alike

Our ideal candidate will have the background to boot: commercial brewing experience, formal brewing qualifications, a university degree and trade skills. These are all highly regarded but not necessary.
